BECOMING CATHOLIC –
RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults)
RCIT (Rite of Christian Initiation for Teens)

When a person ponders the possibility of becoming a Catholic, we, the community of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, welcome him or her to begin the process from the moment of inquiry.  The director will set up an interview with the person to answer any questions about the process and to better understand the uniqueness of that person’s faith development and needs.

Who can participate in the process?

  • Those who are not baptized
  • Those who were baptized in another Christian tradition and who seek to enter Full Communion with the Catholic Church
  • Baptized Catholics who never had the opportunity to receive Holy Communion and Confirmation.

Those who seek to join the Catholic Church become members of the Catechumenate: an ongoing process that meets people where they are on their faith journey and gently initiates them into the life of the parish and the Catholic Church.
